It is rather amazing that the Russian Pravda.ru almost always has an article on their main homepage with a prediction, or warning of an imminent war including most of the world, and blaming it on the U.S. They have always been masters of propaganda and it seems that they are preparing their people and as much of the rest of the world, if war should come, they will know who to blame it on. I can think of no other reason. Or, perhaps the writers who come up with these articles have been so indoctrinated in that direction that they have chronic diarrhea from fear of it.
The world is perhaps standing on the brink of another major war, which may kick off in Iran. Sources close to special services of different countries even come up with dates when the war may begin. The Southern Caucasus borders on Iran. Russia's borders are near the country too. Georgia Times and a scientist of politics of the Tbilisi State University (Georgia) tried to predict what consequences the armed conflict may lead to for separate countries of the region. (Georgia Times: January 10, 2012)
His reasoning is that sooner or later, Israel will feel obligated to take out Iran's capacity to hit them with Nuclear weapons. I can go along with that fear also. It fully appears that this will one day in the very near future, become a reality. It is my hope that his conclusions following that event are not realistic.
He adds the following possible/probable reactions to Israel's attack. (1) The U.S. will back and support their attack. Oddly, he never mentions any of the European countries who might also support and back such an effort. The only powers he mentions insofar as Israel is concerned, are Israel and the U.S. It does, however, appear that these would be included if he is correct in assuming this would initiate World War Three.
His efforts to ensure the response against such an attack, is quite elaborate, however. He even states that if the above scenario occurs, i.e., Israel knocks out Iran's nuclear threat with the U.S. backing and blessing it, "the new large-scale war will become inevitable."
Here is his seeming expectations if such did occur:
In addition, anti-Iranian enemies have failed to build the "axis of hatred" around Iran. Therefore, many countries in the region will support Iran either directly or by implication. In particular, it goes about China. Chinese President Hu Jintao stated that if the USA or any other country attacked Iran, China would take responsive measures immediately. As for Moscow, sources at Russia's Defense Ministry said that the forces in the region had already been mobilized in case of a possible war. (Ibid)
Notice that last statement. "As for Moscow, sources at Russia's Defense Ministry said that the forces in the region had already been mobilized in case of a possible war." Good grief!
Other things which he brings out also appear that the area is taking a possible conflict, quite soon, as a very real possibility. But there are some statements made which might be detrimental against Russia's intervention so readily. Although he does not get into specifics, it is apparent that some of the region might look forward to Russia's becoming burdened with another war, in that they might end any hold that Russia has on them at present. Russia has an army base in Armenia which is very isolated and in the event of a war such as anticipated by some, they may be cut off.
Here is his statement about that:
The isolation of the Russian base in Armenia may push Azerbaijan towards another war for Nagorny Karabakh. "Azerbaijan may use Russia's weakening position in Armenia and launch the war for the liberation of Karabakh. The way how the war develops depends on larger participants, such as the United States and Turkey. I do not think that the States will be passive in this situation," the scientist of politics said. (Ibid)
Even though the entire article is speculation, he paints a picture which seems feasible. It should be enough of concern that our president, Israel, and all concerned, including those who are running for the office of president would take notice and try to steer a safe course through this development.
