It is difficult to imagine such a tragedy ever occurring, but it did. A man with his son and a 10 year old daughter were hunting turtles at the water’s edge in the East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia when a huge saltwater crocodile snatched the little girl, Juraida, into the water. The father and her brother were completely helpless and could not save her. A rescue team later found a dress and a hair ribbon near the scene at the Wailolong river.
Saltwater crocodiles are the largest living reptiles in existence and are most populous in Australia, the east coast of India and parts of south-east Asia. There have been an average of only about two fatal attacks by these creatures per year, but for the past few years, there have been attacks also in Borneo, Sumatra and Myanmar.
The largest saltwater crocodile ever measured was the skin from one which measured 20 feet, and it was estimated that prior to removal from the body, it would have been about one foot longer. And it is estimated that it could have weighed over one ton, possibly as much as 2,200 pounds.
Large adult saltwater crocodiles can potentially eat any animals within their range, including monkeys, kangaroos, wild boar, dingos, goannas, birds, domestic livestock, pets, humans, water buffalo, gaurs, bats, and even sharks. (Saltwater crocodiles: Wikipedia)
Such a horrible thing to have to witness. I suspect that I too, would have died in that fracas had I been the father of the little girl. My prayer is that I will never be witness to anything even similar.

Thanks for sharing this.A heart rending story. Thanks Nancy for the comment.
Guess we in Malaysia also have lots of ugly crocodiles in the streams or dangerous rivers. However, proper steps of precaution must be done by the authority concerned for the safety of the innocent public. There shouldn't be any loose preventive measures as to let the beast run free and kill and devour any victim.
I for one, have a fear of crocodiles that I think they are devils monsters. I once visited a crocodile farm here and boy, a sea of them diving in the muddy water like dead, in wait for their prey. We walked above the wooden bridge with shaky legs. Many crocodiles were pretending dead under our feet and I thought they were. Thanks for the comment Hilda. I agree with you. I think though in this case, the family probably had no idea there was one anywhere around. Seemingly they are just noiw beginning to appear in that particular river. But, for me, I would not allow a 10 year old daughter to be wading in the edge of the water, looking for turtles. Those things can take a toe off.
