A Year From Now Is Up For Grabs

I am not good at prophesying. I call them as I see them but they often come out wrong. This year of 2012, which I never expected to see, is an unusually difficult one to predict. Things may go in any of a number of ways. But, I do not expect things to be a lot better. If progress is made in the world’s economy, I predict it will not be by very much. In fact, there are possibly other problems which may hinder or cause any progress to be moot. There are countries which are witnessing double digit inflation with soaring unemployment that are already home to many on near starvation. And the cause for alarm is, fewer and fewer countries are in condition to help.

And even though some are indicating that our own deep recession has bottomed out and beginning to show promise, I do not believe that to be true. Our problems are now so intense, that correcting them is going to be extremely painful. We have now gone for decades, watching our manufacturing businesses move to foreign lands while we cannot wait to sign more fair trade laws. We are constantly told that each of those fair trade agreements will create thousands of jobs. What we are not told is that they will also cause the loss of many more jobs than they create.

Our enemies are in no way, beaten. Rather, they are growing more sophisticated in their planning of violence against us and may well be able to do some horrible harm during this coming year. Pay attention to the FBI reports. If it were not for their expertise and diligence, we would have already suffered horrible losses by bombings and other methods of terror.

Religious freedom and morality are being flushed down the drain. People are no longer free to mention their religion or religious books, God, or such like in public assemblies. We cannot display anything signifying our particular religion, unless we are Muslim. Biblical morality and ethics are being denied and rather, the individual is encouraged to do as he wishes, and he does.

Family values are virtually gone. Far more couples are now living together rather than to make the commitment of marriage where children are shown the values of having a mother and a father who are committed to each other for life.

I cannot see any of these things I have mentioned, improve in these next twelve months and in fact, they are gaining momentum and are likely to be considerably worse by the end of this year.

There is a slightly bright side, to all of this. Those of us who have lived lo, these many years and see the values disappearing, cannot expect to live to see them grow much worse. The younger generations who have never known anything different, will not recognize that so much change has taken place and perhaps, will be content with the things that be.

It is discouraging to have seen times improve over the years to the point that most children could now acquire a college degree or even higher, if they desire, only to see so many who are unwilling to do so. Many now seem to prefer to steal, rob and even kill in order to survive rather than to put forth the effort to gain an advanced degree and then work. Work has become a dirty word for many.

But, I predict that a year from now, there will be very little recognizable change in the mode or living or the standard of living which we now have. And life goes on.

Joel...you are such a wonderful writer. I think you are right about the state of our country and even the world. We, who are older can remember how it was to be able to talk about our God without fear. It is a sad sad world right now. Thanks for taking the time to write this.

Thank you Fran for reading and the kind comment. I fear that I sound pessimistic, but frankly, I am. I see little chance for the return of those days of religion and morality. In fact, it's like a snow ball rolling down a hill, it will only get bigger and bigger, it appears. Unless there is some terrible catastrophe which will bring people back to the realization that there is someone more powerful than they.
