Although the Russian Pravda, claims the seven billionth person was born at 00.02 Moscow time and that the U.N. has named the child as the seven billionth one to have been born, they acknowledge that several babies were born world wide at virtually the same time. Apparently, they accepted the one whose birth announcement reached them first.
Some sources say that a child named Alexander, born in the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in the Kamchatka region was the first born. It is a truth that Russia is immediately past the international date line and perhaps had the first birth beginning there. However. To have been accurately chosen, all births around the 00.00 hour at the IDL regardless of which zone they were in, should have been calculated and chosen. Not that it makes one hoot of difference.
The population growth has gone wild. In 1650, the globe had 500 million population…half a billion. It reached one billion 150 years later, 1800. It gained another billion in 100 years, then a third billion in 43 more years and 4 billion in 15 more years. We reached 6 billion in 1999 and this last billion in just 12 years. The three most populous countries are China, India and the U.S., in that order. If it doubles again, there will be standing room only.
