After Warnings It Is Bittersweet To Still Say To Candidates ‘I Told You So’

I have written several articles advising the GOP presidential hopefuls to STICK WITH THE ISSUES and not begin to ridicule each other. Nothing is more disgusting to me and, I believe to most voters, than some one belittling another. Stick with what you are going to do, not what the other fellow has done. Most of the things become known anyway, but it should not come from a fellow candidate as criticism of the other. We now have a perfect example of it.

I did not watch the recent debate in Las Vegas, so I do not know what all was said. But I have read that some leaders criticized the 9-9-9 plan of Herman Cain unmercifully. It is alright to point out areas of question in a plan to give the proponent a chance to refute the charges or explain them. And from what I have read, Rick Perry actually lost his cool in an exchange with Mitt Romney. Perry is out. He may as well save his and his friends’ funds but no one who cannot keep their cool under stress, cannot safely serve as president.

I read today where Rasmussen’s poll shows some marked results from that debate. Read this:

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Iowa caucus-goers shows that Cain is in front with 28% followed by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 21%. Congressman Ron Paul is a distant third at 10% followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 9%, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann at 8%, and Texas Governor Rick Perry at 7%. The sixth place finish for Perry is a sharp decline from early September when Perry was the frontrunner both nationally and in Iowa. (Rasmussen’s Report: Daily Update-10/20/2011)

I am actually pleased to see this. I had already marked Romney and Perry off of my list and they are successfully assisting Herman Cain take the lead, as I had hoped. I had already classified Romney as a John Kerry in GOP garb. But Perry, a person I had heard very, very little about until this race got under way. Yet I had become excited with many others that he was about to run, due to the appearance of such a ready made following. Everyone was giving him praise. And when he finally did announce his candidacy and took the lead virtually overnight, I thought we had a winner. We did, but it wasn’t him. Prior to this, Cain had been my choice, but for moment (a few days), I actually thought this fellow can beat Obama. Each debate in which he has been involved, has revealed more of his personality and temperament and has lowered his rating. And especially the last one…in Las Vegas.

Everyone can see the results of stupidity combined with a big mouth and high office in the form of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. Neither of these hateful mouthed people should even be allowed in the public arena. Nancy still holds the most disdained member of congress in the polls.

I think the Republican National Committee should, right now, get behind Herman Cain and push him into the winner’s circle. He has proven to be a level headed man with good answers and the opposition, GOP as well as the Dem’s, are having a really difficult time in an attempt to find something wrong with the fellow. Oh, they will make up plenty, as they always do. But the voters are somewhat more intelligent than many think. They will say that he has no political experience. But the voters will say, ’Praise God’, for that. But even so, look what was voted in last time.

I have said this before, but it is a perfect example. Jimmy Carter had nothing going for him other than he didn’t ridicule others. He had a rolled up upper lip and respect for his opposition. That is all, but he won.

Joel, since you don't like nasty debates, it's a good thing you missed that last one. :-) The other candidates were attacking Cain at the beginning, but he stood his ground. After a a while, they decided it would be best to leave him alone. Perry and Romney had a very intense exchange for while. They definitely don't like each other. Perry tried to make Romney lose his cool, but ended up making himself look worse in the process. Every time Perry would attack him, Romney would turn the tables, making himself seem like the adult and Perry seem like the child. It was not a good night for Perry, despite how some of the pundits have tried to spin it. I think Cain and Gingrich were the two big winners.

Thanks Terry for elaborating. Your take is basically what I had gathered from other sources. I've been getting to bed early these past few days because I have not been feeling well. So I made no effort to stay and watch it.

Thank you Christofer, you flatter me. I appreciate your kind comment, and coming from a man so obviously knowledgeable, it is even more pleasant. But as to my mind, it is swiftly losing it's sharpness. I can still do very well in writing, but in open conversation, I have problems with trying to remember words to express my feelings. My mind has deteriorated over the past two or three years.
