As a general rule, I find trivia intriguing, but I often question the accuracy of some. The following are listed only as I have read them, whether or not 100% accurate.
Fact: An average of 12 babies will be given to the wrong parents each year. I don’t know if that means in the U.S. or world wide. Makes me kindly glad I was born at home.
Fact: There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos. Reason?? I don’t have a clue unless the owners just don’t want their customers to know that 2:00 A.M. is past their bedtime.
Fact: Bruce Lee was so fast, they had to slow the film down for people to see his moves. I had a somewhat similar problem. My movements were so slow, my dad had to watch me for some time to see if I was working.
Fact: The original name for the butterfly was “flutterby”. (?) I never knew that. It does make more sense though.
Fact: By raising your legs slowly and lying on your back, you can't sink in quicksand. But don’t try this at home! For crying out loud!
Fact: Mosquito repellents don't repel... They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there. Hmmm. I wonder if they could come up with something for telemarketers?
Fact: Dentists recommend that a toothbrush be kept at least six feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush. MERCY! Our toilet isn’t over 6 feet from everything in there! I now plan to rig a cord on some pulleys so I can wait until I am outside the door. Our tooth brushes are kept in holders inside a cabinet, however, it is now me, that I am concerned about! Airborne Particles?
Fact: The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley’s gum: Probably now, we know more than 99% of the U.S. population. I wonder if I might have bought that pack.
Fact: The three most valuable brand names on earth: Marlboro, Coca-Cola, and Budweiser, in that order. A shame.
Fact: To escape the grip of a crocodile's jaws, prick your fingers into its eyeballs. It will let you go instantly. Good advice. If he happens to have both your arms in his grip, try to do some contortion to get a toe in this eye. Probably just as effective as a finger.
Fact: The average person falls asleep in seven minutes. This one may be true, but then I am not the average. I would call that rolling and tumbling. I am asleep usually in less than two minutes. Well, not always. At church I probably fall in the average category.
Fact: “Dreamt" is the only word in the English language that ends in "MT". Again, I’m in the ignorant category. I always thought it is was “dreamed”. I do think “limped” should be spelled with an “MT“.
Fact: It's impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. I wonder who watches to see that.
Fact: A cockroach can live for 10 days without a head. That is not hard to believe. I’ve known people who lived a lifetime with an empty one. Here in Alabama, we call them politicians.
Fact: The average person sheds 40 lbs of skin in a lifetime. I’m certainly thankful for it. If it weren’t for that and a few minor surgeries I would have never been able to lose any weight.
Fact: Yo-Yos were once used as weapons in the Philippines. Say, I wonder how efficient they were. We had bayonets on the end of our rifles. But I never encountered anyone with a Yo-Yo.
Fact: The world's youngest parents were 8 and 9 and lived in China in 1910. Mercy! At that age, I thought girls were just soft boys!
Fact: The Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. We understand that she plucked them faithfully but never knew when to stop.
Fact: The longest place name still in use is: Taumatawhakatangihangaoauauotameteaturi- Pukakpikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu - a New Zealand hill. Some New Zealanders ought to have been ashamed, whoever it was that named that hill. How would you like it if you parents had named you after that hill? The only good part is that no one knows if that is the accurate spelling. It may have been forty years since anyone spelled it correctly.
Fact: Coca-Cola was originally green: I’m nearly as old as Coca-Cola and I don’t remember any when they were green. The early bottles were slightly green tinted glass. But then, I was probably 7 or 8 years old when I first tried drinking one. It blew my nose for me, cleaned my sinuses and, I think, came out of my eyes and ears also.
Fact: Women blink nearly twice as much as men!! The reason they don’t excel with NASCAR.
Fact: You can't kill yourself by holding your breath. For crying out loud! Who’s trying??
Fact: It is impossible to lick your elbow. Who in the world would want to lick an elbow?
