The Reason Green, Green, Must Take A Back Seat To Economy

Environmentalists are obsessed with everything and everybody going green to save our planet. Their fanatical approach is foolhardy. I’m for doing all we reasonably can to help eliminate pollution, and other measures advocated by their movement. But many of their rants are unjustified and others are self destructive. Hey, there are now over 6 billion people on the earth. If you stood each one on the shoulders of another upward, I’m sure they might reach the moon and maybe back.

We can’t take the time and space in this article to elucidate every item with it’s pros and cons, but we can grab a few of the present efforts to do something about it and determine if they are practical or simply stupid. Let’s begin with the hybrid car bit. First of all, the government is broke, we cannot afford to subsidize the research and development of these things at this point in time. The automobile companies have become broke for paying their union employees twice what most workers earn and therefore, had to price their cars out of reach of the ordinary American worker. They are in no position to sink billions of dollars into research and development of these little monsters which will cost double the price of a conventional vehicle…which us pore folk can’t afford already.

Not only that, their performance will be sub-normal and will cause the difficulties of one’s commuting to work, to worsen. The extra cost of operation and maintenance will be added to the extra purchase cost. My last auto purchase was five years ago and the vehicle was 8 years old then. I still couldn’t afford it. But I had to have some way of going for groceries, that I couldn‘t afford to purchase. Fortunately it was a Dodge and is still purring like a kitten.

Now let’s talk about green energy for our utilities. Currently our heating, cooling, and other energy consumption causes my monthly utilities to take approximately 12% of our income. That isn’t including telephone, TV, computer, and other such things. With the advent of much costlier green energy, we can’t make it. All the new sources, wind, sun, etc., are proving to be cost prohibitive and problematic.

As I said earlier, I have nothing against, in fact I’m in favor of, continuing research into alternative sources of energy. But keep in mind, every one is broke now except a few individuals. The research for these things ultimately come from the public’s pockets. The research laboratories and other researchers almost all rely on grants from the government, colleges, and some large organizations, but all of these funds have been derived from the public. The large organizations would not have all that money if they had not overcharged the public for their products/services.

And to put the lid on the jar, even though the U.S. uses more fuel and energy than any other nation in the world, I reckon, we can’t accomplish these things alone. Just because we are willing to wear clothes which reveal our backside because they are worn out, doesn’t mean that other countries are going to do likewise. The real answer here is to get this nation in a prosperous mode again and then, when we can afford it, we can go back to researching…big time. And with Herman Cain, we CAN!

If you assume 5.5ft tall, just Americans would reach to the moon and half way back. Thanks again, Joel, for the good read

Thank you Jack for reading and commenting. I could have figued that problem out but just didn't take the time. Math was not my very best subject in College. I took first year Algebra and then a course in Geometry. By then I had determined some other major.
