Herman Cain Takes A Good Lead In GOP Presidential Primary Polls

Two days ago, I posted an article concerning the surprise upset of Herman Cain over the rest of the candidates in the Florida Straw Poll. Cain was expected to come in as number 4 or lower in the group of candidates, yet he came in as winner and that by a huge margin! A huge 37%, more than his next two competitors combined! Rick Perry got 15% and Romney 14% for a total of 29%. You could throw in Newt Gingrich with his 8% and you would then have a tie with Cain. That is amazing.

But even then, I thought, well that is only Florida, I’m sure he could not come close nationwide. Wrong! Zobgy just released their latest poll taken after the GOP debate on last Thursday night but was still in the field when the Florida win was announced. Nationwide mind you. Although Cain did not surpass Perry and Romney combined as in Florida, he did give them a sound thrashing with a 28% of the vote to Perry’s 18% and Romney’s 17%. A week ago no one would have dared think of this phenomena. No one, that is, except Herman Cain. He has not wavered in his confidence of the American people and what their wishes for the country are.

Look at these figures for a moment. A record of Zobgy’s last three such polls

Name  Sept 26  Sept 12  Aug 29

Cain       28%       12%      8%

Perry      18%      37%     41%

Romney  17%     14%      12%

Ron Paul 11%      11%      11%

Gingrich    6%        2%       3%

Bachmann 4%        7%       9%

After each debate, it has been commonly heard that this one spent their time putting down the other one, how one embarrassed the other, etc. I wrote an article early on advising all the GOP hopefuls not to spend their time ridiculing one another, yet it has come to the point that the debates are filled with bad-mouthing another of these conservatives. Hurting their standing perhaps but endangering the win of the GOP in the election of 2012. And look what it is doing for the front runners, they are falling by the wayside, mostly over technicalities.

Who has profited? Herman Cain. The one fellow who should have. He ridicules no one and only occasionally even mentions one whose views do not match his, and then he is respectful and kind. Yet, he forcefully points out our problems and his plans for correcting them. And his ideas are GREAT!

There was only one factor about Jimmy Carter which won him the presidency. He was kind and gracious toward his opponents. That is all he had going for him. He made a lousy president but nevertheless, he won the election.

But once people have taken the time to listen to Herman Cain, they like what they hear. The man is honest (making him anything but a politician), he has his head on straight and he wants to bring this country out of the doldrums. Cain believes he has the solution basically in his 9-9-9 plan. What is his 999 plan?

A 9 percent corporate flat tax. Businesses would deduct purchases from other U.S.-based businesses and all capital investment. The resulting gross income would be taxed at 9 percent.

A 9 percent personal flat tax. Individuals would deduct charitable contributions, then pay 9 percent on the rest of their income. Capital gains would be excluded.

A 9 percent national sales tax. This levy would be placed on the consumption of all new goods. Used goods purchased would be excluded.

To me personally, that hit’s the poor quite hard, but I cannot really say that it is not fair. If this is his worst proposal, I believe we could do much worse. If in the meantime, we can see energy prices lowered substantially, that will itself, about offset the 9% tax. Cain will have to detail a lot of items to be able to make his present lead hold and grow, but if I have him pegged properly, he will not hesitate to do so. And you can take what he says to the bank…they will cash it.

I am sure that his finances will grow with this large increase in followers. His name is surely going to become a household word, both factors of which he has been lacking. Maybe, this will take a little out of the likes of Morgan Freeman who can think of nothing realistic to criticize the Tea Party better than calling them racists.

I hope the conservatives, Tea Party, Republicans alike will get behind this man and stop the wasted effort to bring Ron Paul’s numbers up. He is unelectable and there is no need to draw strength from those who are. It can only cause problems in the conservative camp. Do what is right.

I agree with many of your observations. I believe the tax sytem we have is a big part of our financial problem, along with out of control spending. I believe the 999 is a viable solution, as we must change the IRS system.

In relation to the poor, in my area, the second hand stores and Salvation Army are well used. There are only perishable items purchased by our poorest. So excluding that in Cain's tax structure makes sense to me. WE NEED A WHOLE LOT OF COMMON SENSE TO GET OUT OF THIS NATIONAL DEBT....Thanks for writing this, it is well written.

Thank you elle, I agree with your comments. I am just not familiar enough with Cain's proposition to know how well it will work out. But I have a lot of confidence in him

I have liked Cain for a long time and have told people so. I was surprised that so many did not see his value. Apparently, they are seeing it now. Honest, intelligent, communicative, proven business turn around expertise and a wholesome passion for doing the right thing. He was at death's doorstep. When diagnosed with cancer he was given a 3 month time span to live--he survived--that too changes most men and women and makes them realize what is real and important in life. He is not the same old same same old. He is change, he is doing bold steps which is what needed in these tumultuous times.

We need to continue to listen and see if he continues to wow everyone or see if he implodes--but now, he looks real refreshing.

Thanks for the comment Steve. I agree, with you. I also liked Cain from the first time I heard him, and I wrote an article about him, but not all that enthusiasticly because I didn't feel that he had a chance. But now it appears that he may have a good shot at it. I'm going to stay closely on watch to see what happens.

Joel, I would love to see Cain win it. I like him much better than the two guys who used to be the frontrunners. I've been following a the polls on RealClearPolitics and have not seen the Zogby poll, although they carry almost all the rest of them, which by the way, are now mostly showing Romney first, Perry second, Cain third, and Gingrich fourth. I don't know why they stopped carrying Zogby, as it as proven time and again to be the most accurate. I now have a bone to pick with RealClearPolitics. :-)

Thank you Terry, I agree, I would love to see Herman Cain as our next president. I also agree about RealClearPolitics. Zogby is perhaps themost accurate poll around.

Thank you Christopher. I am not familiar enough on the matehmatics of this plan to know if that would raise enough funds to sustain our government or not. But I have an idea that Herman Cain has already figured it out.
