College Students Opportunities For Careers With The FBI

Not too many youths consider the Federal Bureau of Investigation when they are considering and planning their future. But opportunities do abound there and the variety is exceptional. When most think of the FBI, they think of dangerous undercover work and raids on criminal strongholds or criminal actions. And for those who are seeking an exciting career in such matters, they truly are available. But these fearless individuals who willingly lay their lives on the line to help rid the nation of dangerous criminals are not nearly the only careers available in the bureau. They have many different jobs which are equally important but with much safer environments.
The FBI also encourages recruits by pointing out that, once one has accepted employment, his opportunities widen. You have the opportunity to move into other professional areas and divisions, become a Special Agent, apply for overseas assignments, pursue a management path, or rise to a management level.
Here are a few position titles:
Management Analyst: Contributing to the efficiency and the culture of achievement is certainly an important role. You may collect, review, and analyze information in order to make recommendations to management • conduct research to identify and evaluate areas of improvement that have a direct impact on FBI operations • utilize surveys, interviews, and quantitative data to prepare statistical analysis reports • participate in briefings related to study findings and recommendations
Budget Analyst: This position assumes accountabilities related to the Bureau's finances, budgets, expenditures and more. You may be involved with developing, analyzing or executing budgets (impacting resources allocations, future financial estimates, etc.) • preparing data in support of the budgetary cycle • analyzing and comparing budget estimates for variations • making recommendations to upper management regarding a number of issues including transfers and reallocation of funding.
Staff Operations Specialist: This position interacts directly with Special Agents and Intelligence Analysts, assisting with cases of all types and levels. Typical duties include but are not limited to: providing direct support to investigations and related activities by analyzing and researching intelligence data • running initial database checks • assessing linkages between cases • drafting briefings, memos, and regular case updates • and assuming other duties as necessary.
Intelligence Analyst: By their very nature, FBI investigations of every category incorporate and are supported by information from our Intelligence Analysts. In addition to working closely with Special Agents and other Bureau personnel, your role may include: accessing local and national intelligence databases to respond to and/or validate information requests • producing communications to other Intelligence Community and law enforcement entities that present issues in a clear and concise manner • establishing/maintaining extensive liaisons with local, national, and international contacts throughout the Intelligence and law enforcement communities.
Human Resources Specialist: Your involvement will focus on our most precious asset: our people. You may be involved with employee relations, benefits, compensation, and/or staffing • consult with executives regarding strategic planning • counsel employees about benefits programs, coverage and options • conduct research relating to career development, training, and selection systems • develop and deliver training for employees at all levels.
The positions listed above will accept or consider all college Majors.
Information Technology Specialist (IT): Maximizing the most advanced technologies is a key priority of the FBI. Your accountabilities may encompass overseeing/implementing computer systems and network operations (daily administration, maintenance, ongoing support) • serving as a technical and informational resource to users • installing configuring, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN components • diagnosing and resolving network issues • ensuring that information security policies are applied • and more. (Majors: Computer Science/ IT, Management Information Systems, and Computer Engineering)
