What’s Really Going On In Libya With NATO And The U.S.?

What is the truth about Libya? Views from the Russian Pravda.ru site (which admittedly must be taken cautiously) gives the view opposite of that coming from NATO and the U.S.
That is of course, what little you can get out of the latter two. We began our involvement with NATO’s attack on a sovereign country sometime back in March or April. This entire affair is under the guise of assisting an oppressed citizenry gain their freedom. But how much of this is fact and how much is fiction? The least the U.S. Congress could do would be to demand an accounting of the numbers of Libyans involved in this uprising(?) as opposed to insurgents from Egypt?
In an effort to justify the president’s contempt for the law, legal adviser to the State Department Harold Koh stated “From the outset, we noted that the situation in Libya does not constitute a war”. Outraged, Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) shot back, “When you have an operation that goes on for months, costs billions of dollars, where the United States is providing two-thirds of the troops, even under the NATO fig leaf, where they’re dropping bombs that are killing people, where you’re paying your troops offshore combat pay and there are areas of prospective escalation — something I’ve been trying to get a clear answer from with this administration for several weeks now, and that is the possibility of a ground presence in some form or another, once the Qaddafi regime expires — I would say that’s hostilities.”(Jim Emerson-FloydReports.com) (impeachobamacampaign.com)
Acknowledging the fact that the above sources are anti-Obama and one is anti-America in philosophy and consequently are probably biased in their writing, but just how much? We do know that this war was entered into without congressional consent. That Obama was elected on the strict promises of withdrawing from our other two wars, both of which have more legitimacy than this supposed internal insurrection.
If we did enter into it to avoid allowing Qaddafi to slaughter innocent(?) civilians(?) why then have we not intervened in areas such as Somalia, Ivory Coast and other places? And why has President Obama not been willing to go to congress for permission to continue these hostilities for over five months now?
In the case of the Ivory Coast, it was Islamists against a Leader who at least claimed to be Christian. In this one, Qaddafi has been an enemy to the U.S. and has even aided the insurgents in Iraq, however, he has been none too aggressive against us, whereas it is an unknown factor as to what type government will be in place if the rebels take over, especially seeing they are backed by Egyptian terrorists.
Congress and the American people deserve to know just what is going on. And congress needs to stand up and be counted instead of allowing usurpation of their authority.
