James Richard “Rick” Perry is the current (47th) governor of Texas and has a remarkable record in that office. He was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1998 and then assumed the office of Governor when George Bush resigned to become president of the United States in December 2000. He won re-election in 2002, 2006 and 2010. His tenure as governor makes him the longest serving governor in Texas state history. He is the longest currently serving governor in the United States and second longest serving governor, ever, in the United States. He was a member of the Democratic Party early in his career but changed to the Republican Party in 1989 after the Dallas Morning News had named him as one of the most effective legislators in the 71st legislature.

His record as the governor has been impressive. He has proven to be very popular and has a number of accomplishments on that record. He also holds the conservative views of a majority of conservatives and many independents.

(1) He is a strong fiscal conservative and believes in a smaller national government.

(2) He had his second book published in November 2010, “Fed Up” in which he discusses limited central government. He also takes issue with the federal government’s right to collect personal income tax and opposes the 16th amendment which authorized such.

(3) He is an Evangelical Christian, and he and his family have been members of the Tarrytown United Methodist Church since the 1990’s. A quote from his first book, “On My Honor” says: "Let's be clear: I don't believe government, which taxes people regardless of their faith, should espouse a specific faith. I also don't think we should allow a small minority of atheists to sanitize our civil dialogue on religious references.”

(4) Perry opposes all legal recognition of same sex marriages.

(5) He is pro-life and opposes government funding for elective abortions. In 2003, Perry signed the Prenatal Protection Act, which explicitly included fetuses in its definition of human life.

(6) He is a supporter of the death penalty.

The above list is just a few of his conservative views and he also has accomplishments to his credit. Texas is the only state of the 50, whose jobs have actually increased during the current period of layoffs nationwide and the recession.

Even though he has not positively announced that he will run, he is currently running high in the polls, and drawing near the front runner, Mitt Romney. Many say he will announce his candidacy for president, tomorrow, August 12, 2011. I have not read that he has said that, only that he will make his decision known, which is now presumed to be in the positive. I am hopeful, although, it does not make a tingle run up my leg.

One may rest assured that the liberals have their weapons drawn and will have a raucous week ahead.

Great work. Is Perry a good speaker? He sure looks the part. Governors do well don't they? He looks like he could be a good debater. Does he have any major "weaknesses"?

I've never heard him speak but he is a very intelligent man. I know of no major weakneses, but take my word, you will hear a lot of lies. The Democrats are frightened to death of him and they will jump on him as they did Sarah Palin. His announcement tomorrow will no doubt be broadcast live and then over and over. I believe he is the man.
