I fear for the future, not only for our nation, but for the world. My fear is not for self, since my tour is about over, but for the world, the good people, those who care about others and are peacemakers. Seemingly, some of the worst scenarios often comes from some individual who has a severe mental problem, or from those who have deeply embedded hatred for others who are not like themselves.
The real unfortunate part is, we are near equally divided in our philosophies. This may sound as if it is better to be so, but it is not. When a large majority prefer a certain method, they can overrule the minority and the minority must submit. But with our present condition, we have nothing but gridlock. This alone, causes much activity and stalemates which are detrimental. And the fire of hatred is stoked by it. We are presently at such great odds, either side refuses to even consider the smallest compromise.
Regardless of which route is taken in our present critical dilemma, anger from the other side will be multiplied. Regardless of who is elected in 2012, hatred will be multiplied. I hate to even mention the thought, but somewhere down the line, I expect us to become violently engaged in something akin to civil war. I do hope that I am totally wrong in such thoughts.
And it goes without saying, our country is not alone with these problems. Just take a look at those already involved in civil rebellion, others who are being attacked by cowardly terrorists.
It is truly a world wide problem.
One of the reasons I felt compelled to write this article is the present outrageous event which happened to the tiny, peaceful country of Norway. The horror is done. Hopefully, it was only the insanity of the individual who is now under arrest…but I doubt that is the extent of it.
Norway is an exemplary nation. They have always attempted to stay out of wars, although some neighboring nations have ignored their desire to remain neutral and have involved them in the past. They are located in Northern Europe, bordering the North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, west of Sweden. The country is only 148,747 square miles in size and has 4,691,849 estimated population.
Yesterday, seven people were killed in a bombing which damaged the Prime Minister’s building, the finance and oil ministry buildings. The Prime Minister was not in the building when the bombing occurred and he has been advised to keep his current location private until they can resolve who set the bomb and whether or not it would be safe for him to return.
Then there was a 32 year old Norwegian citizen arrested for firing on a Labour Youth League summer camp. Here is an opening paragraph from the Prime Ministers statement:
Last night, it became apparent that what happened at the Labour Youth League summer camp on Utøya yesterday was a national tragedy. Not since the Second World War has the country experienced such an atrocity. At least 80 young people have been killed on Utøya. We have also lost some of our colleagues in the government offices. It is incomprehensible. It is like a nightmare. A nightmare for the young people who have been killed. For their families. Mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters who have been brutally confronted with death. But also for the survivors and their families.
