Few People Are Aware Of The Most Extensive Worldwide Terrorist Group

When anyone mentions terrorists, al Qaeda is the first that comes to mind and which is readily understood due to the extensive media coverage they get. And much of their radical activity is open and newsworthy. And you hear a lot about “radical Islamists” which is not an organized group, but most of the terrorists groups are comprised of those. You also hear a great deal about Hamas, which is a group born in 1987 at the urging of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. They are the ruling party of the Gaza part of the Palestinian area and have other groups in various locations.

But the group with the most wide spread activities and which are not in the headline news nearly as much as some others, is the Hezbollah which is headquartered in Lebanon. It began as a militant resistance movement of Shi’a Muslims in the 1980’s whose intent was to remove the occupation of Israel in southern Lebanon. They were encouraged and supplied with funds and equipment by Syria and Iran. They developed their anti-Israel and anti-American stance from the Ayatollah Khomeini who was in the news and recognized for his disdain of Israel and the West. They formed a sort of guerilla warfare against the Israeli troops who were stationed in Lebanon.

Before 9/11, Hezbollah, not Al Qaeda, was responsible for the majority of U.S. terrorism deaths, including the 1983 bombings of U.S. Marine barracks and U.S. embassy in Beirut, in addition to a series of attacks in the '80s. Hezbollah is also responsible for countless attacks on Israel. In 1992, Hezbollah, with help from Iran, bombed the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. In 1994 they bombed the Jewish community center in the same South American city. Those are just a handful of examples that don’t even account for the thousands of rockets Hezbollah has launched into Israel throughout the years. (A Growing Terror Threat: Hezbollah in Latin America: Katie Pavlich -Townhall 07-08-2011)

The activities of Hezbollah has been condemned by those Arab countries whose populations are largely Sunni Muslims, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt. The group has also been declared as a terrorist organization by the United States, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Egypt, Israel, Australia, and Canada.

Since their beginning in the early 1980’s they have grown and extended their organization into much of the world. They are being supported by Iran, Syria and now Hugo Chavez, of Venezuela

Hezbollah is the most prevalent terrorist organization in the world. The group operates in over 40 countries and on 5 continents, including operations in at least 15 U.S. cities and four major Canadian cities. In South America specifically, the group operates in the region where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet. Brazil is used as a major terrorism hub and cocaine is exchanged for weapons in Colombia. (Ibid)

They have joined forces with the drug cartels operating along the U.S. and Mexican border. A Manifesto of theirs in 1985 listed four primary goals:

(1) "Israel's final departure from Lebanon as a prelude to its final obliteration."

(2) Ending "any imperialist power in Lebanon."

(3) Submission of the Phalangists to "just rule" and bringing them to trial for their crimes.

(4) Giving the people the chance to choose "with full freedom the system of government they want," while not hiding its commitment to the rule of Islam.

Hezbollah leaders have also made numerous statements calling for the destruction of Israel, which they refer to as a " Zionist entity ... built on lands wrested from their owners”.

While the U.S. has sought diligently to stop the terrorism of al Qaeda and Israel is constantly attempting to arrange peach with the Palestinians Hamas, the deep rooted evil Hezbollah continues to wreak sporadic havoc with “hit and run” tactics, they remain the greatest threat to world peace.

These various groups of radicals have been successful in fostering unrest in many nations. It is unfortunate that they do not comprise one single, identifiable nation of people. But rather, they infiltrate many lands and mingle with many classes of people. The first half of this writers life saw no such world wide terrorism. Even the brutal and crazed Adolf Hitler, was the leader of a known country of people, where civilized countries could concentrate upon stopping him. The terror we now see is likely to be seen by our grandchildren and even their grandchildren, although it may become intensely worse.

Thank you Marijo, when you get to thinking about this subject...it makes one wonder where it is going. Unless something comes to convince these radical terrorists to think differently, this global war cannot be won. I wrote an article shortly after 9/11 when I questioned the liklihood of ever being able to stop this. With their numbers, you could exterminate dozens every day and they would only grow! Some say that once they destroy Israel, peace will come. Not true. It would only embolden them. Their goal is world wide Shariah Law.
