It is not easy to become one of the USMS 15 Most Wanted. You have to be pretty tough and pretty notorious to make that infamous list. But Keith Hasson, 45, made the list, having been added to it on June 6, 2011. He was arrested without incident on Wednesday June 27, 2011.

Hasson, a suspected drug kingpin, was wanted on a 2005 open indictment from the New Mexico U.S. District Court for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, continuing criminal enterprise and conspiracy to launder money. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force in Los Angeles.

Hasson is considered to be the leader of a criminal enterprise responsible for large-scale distribution of cocaine and marijuana throughout the United States. His organization operated from 1999 to 2005, generating more than $20 million in cash and assets. His brother, Anthony Hasson, received more than 24 years in prison for his conviction in the same criminal case. His extensive criminal history, dating back to 1981, includes arrests for attempted murder, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, burglary and possession with intent to distribute. Hasson is also wanted for questioning in two gang-related murders. He has a previous federal conviction for conspiracy to deliver cocaine. (Justice Department Press Release: June30, 2011)

He is believed to have had access to large financial resources and has family and/or other contacts in states all across the nation, including the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Missouri, New York, North Carolina and Georgia.

Officials stated that he had a long run as the leader of a criminal organization but this was brought to a close by good teamwork of the USMS and their other law enforcement partners.

We are reminded however that the accused is simply that at this point and is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
