Many people in this nation have no clue what the acronym ICE, identifies. When actually it is the second largest investigative organization of the federal government. It is the primary investigative body of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This agency was formed in 2003 through a merger of the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service, ICE now has more than 20,000 employees in more than 400 offices in the United States and 46 foreign countries.
A news release dated January 13, 2011, announces the distribution of $2,330,160 to the New York State Police, the Albany County District Attorney and the Guilderland Police Department.
The money is the result of a settlement of IFCO's corporate criminal liability for conduct associated with the hiring and employment of illegal alien workers at its pallet plants prior to April 19, 2006. The forfeiture resulted from an extensive investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Another news release dated January 13, 2011 from Wilmington Delaware announces the sentencing of Air Force Sergeant Jamie Hall, 37, of Dover Air Force Base:
...to 72 months in prison for receipt of child pornography, in violation of federal law. Hall also was sentenced to 5 years of supervised release, which will commence following his prison term. He also will be required to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives, works or attends school. This prison sentence resulted from an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
"The defendant was bartering images of children being sexually abused with like-minded criminals on the Internet," said John P. Kelleghan, special agent in charge of ICE HSI in Philadelphia. "People who trade these images are victimizing these children each time they share a photo or video and creating demand for more images of children being abused. Homeland Security Investigations is committed to breaking that vicious cycle, protecting children, and bringing those who abuse children to justice." VALENCIA, Calif. - Two male Canadian nationals are in custody facing state drug charges after agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations and local police executed a search warrant at a warehouse here Wednesday night and found more than 103 pounds of cocaine and approximately $2.4 million in cash concealed inside a locked safe.
Vasile Babuschin, 19, and Sergei Souetov, 32, both from the Toronto area, are expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles County District Court Tuesday for possession of cocaine. The two men were at the Valencia warehouse, located at 28351Constellation Road, when the agents and officers moved in. Besides the safe, investigators found dozens of boxes of romaine lettuce stacked inside the building. Agents believe the cocaine was ultimately destined for Canada and speculate the produce was going to be used to try to obscure the smuggling scheme.
