Van Der Sloot’s Latest Scheme May Not Work

The word has been in the news since Joran van der Sloot was arrested in Chile and moved back to Peru, that he has volunteered to talk frankly to the Aruban officials about his knowledge of Natalee Holloway. He has said he will tell them where the remains were hidden and explain his experience in her death. But only to the Aruban authorities.

The Aruban police have responded that they would like an interview with him on this matter. Also, the Peruvian officials have consented to arrange such. The latest word is that an Aruban policeman and a prosecutor may visit him as early as August.

But, let us consider a minute, what will van der Sloot desire to accomplish here? It is almost a sure bet that he is not simply going to spill his guts to the Aruban authorities without some sort of bargaining. He isn't that type of fellow. He has had five years to make this move and get it off his chest, if that is all he is after.

So, what is involved? According to reports, he is terrified that his life will be in mortal danger, serving 20-35 years in a Peruvian prison. He reportedly is now awaiting trial in a section of the Miguel Castro Castro Prison, one of three maximum security prisons in Peru. The section is said to contain 20 cells but only three are occupied. This would seem to be fairly secure for him at the present time. However, it is likely he will be placed in some other section or other prison when he is sentenced.

Does he feel that if he confesses to accidentally killing Natalee Holloway and point out truthfully where her remains are, that he will be allowed to leave Peru for a trial in Aruba? And not be sent back?

It may be a good opportunity to learn the truth concerning the whereabouts of Natalee's remains, but it is highly doubtful the truth would ever be resolved of how she died. And even more questionable is his chances of being able to leave Peru until he has served his sentence there, whatever that may be. 35 years is the maximum sentence in Peru for murder.

Van der Sloot has been high profile news over the past 5 years and has told one untruth after another concerning Natalee Holloway's death. He appears to relish the notoriety gained from international news papers and television interviews. But he may have gone a little too far this time. The Peruvian police have indicated they will cooperate with Aruban authorities to arrange an interview for them with van der Sloot.

Peter Blanken, Aruba's chief prosecutor told reporters that regardless of what information van der Sloot might give them, it is unlikely that he will be brought back to Aruba, before completing his sentence in Peru. He also added that the Peruvian case was a pretty severe one and the authorities have already told him that they did not want to allow him to leave. In view of these probabilities, it seems quite possible that van der Sloot will not disclose the facts concerning Holloway's death and location of her remains. He will probably, once again give them erroneous information while withholding the truth as an ace in the hole for some future bargaining.

Dave Holloway, father of Natalee, visited and talked with them on last Tuesday, Blanken said, but neither of them had any fresh information to discuss.

It would be nice for the Natalie's parents sake if they could find the body and have some closure but it seems highly unlikely with this guy. Thanks for the information update on the case.

Thank you Linda for your comment. I have no further confidence in anything he says. They will have to find her before I'll believe he has told one whit of truth.
