Officials from Peru's police department plan to take Joran van der Sloot to the crime scene today to show how and where the murder of 21 year old Stephany Flores took place. They reported that they have until this week end to file formal criminal charges against van der Sloot.
Col. Abel Gamarra of the Peru Police Department indicated that, although the suspect had confessed, they were trying to clinch every detail of the episode. The confession made by van der Sloot has not been elaborated on by the police, however, here is a blurb from Florida's SunSentinel.com:
The source of the information given by the La Republica was not cited.
Also, a quote from the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant, had this to say:
"Joran told his mother crying Monday that he was being interrogated under reasonably barbaric conditions," the paper quoted Bert De Rooij saying. "He said the police were trying to force him to confess."
Well, shouldn't they be?
Although police or the other officials have not disclosed who will be representing van der Sloot, his court appointed lawyer, Carla Odria, stated that he has now hired a personal lawyer who was with him when he confessed on Monday night.
Some few blog comments have stated that Flores won $5,000 in the casino on the Saturday before her death on Sunday morning, plus that her father had given her $1,000 to buy a new laptop computer. Confirming this information has been difficult, so it's validity is left in question. However, if it is true, it would certainly offer a stronger motive than just a fit of anger over someone reading personal information on his computer.
Police confirm that van der Sloot did, indeed, leave the room at 8:10 A.M and returned with two cups of coffee from a supermarket across the street. As most crimes, there are mysteries which do not seem to make sense. Perhaps all will come out during the investigation and court hearing.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)When I first saw this case reported in the news last week, my first thought was that Mr. Van Der Sloot is going to find out there's a big difference between Aruba and Peru....And you are right Jean, thanks for the comment.
Whenever I read about crimes and the alleged perpetrator cries "innocent" or "abused" in some way or another I become so aware of how difficult it must be to close a case satisfactorily and fairly. I'm biased against him, but still I hope the whole story comes out.Yes, I do also, but unless he can show where the body of Natalee Hollloway is, I doubt that one will ever be resolved. And we may never really know what happened in that hotel room either. Thnaks for your comment.
