Problematic reasons for giving the U.N. the boot

The latest debacle by the United Nations which slipped by with little to no fanfare and most of the American public was unaware of it, is today's subject of my ongoing vendetta against that rotten organization. I wasn't aware of it until today and it actually took place on April 28. Fortunately it does not take effect until 2011. So people ought to complain to their congressmen or to any others who might have some influence in getting it stopped.
This commission is comprised of representatives from forty five states (nations) who meet annually for a session on promoting equality for women among those nations who show discrimination between the sexes. Again, we see their cause as lofty and admirable. They, however, are much like the rest of the U.N., filled with talk and no potency whatsoever. They have recently put a lot of bad mouth on Beijing for the inequality of employment and other features for women and rightly so. For a history of the CSW, click here.
But now, on April 28, 2010, there were two open slots on the Asian section of the commission and only two states had made application for them. So they were appointed by acclamation. No discussion, no voting or allowing for objections. One of the states appointed was Iran. If there was no other solution to filling the appointments, the commission should have been dissolved.
Iran, the perfect epitome of gender discrimination in the entire world. With the most mentally disturbed ruler of any nation. Let's look at some of the reasons this appointment puts the lid on the jar or the icing on the cake.
Iran's criminal code allows for such as, burying a woman from her waist down and then stoning her to death for adultery.
Rape by one's spouse is not illegal.
In order for a woman to have a non-spousal man convicted of rape, she must have four male witnesses or three men and two women.
Here is a statement taken from an article by Anne Bafesky in FOXNews.com:
In an effort to prevent Iran's election to the Commission, the National Iranian American Council reported prior to the meeting: "in the past year, Iranhas charged women who were seeking equality in the social spherewith threatening national securityIts prison guards have beaten, tortured, sexually assaulted and raped female and male civil rights protestersIn universitiesthe government is now banning women from key areas of study. Childcare centers are being shut down to hamper women's ability to workWomen's publications that addressed gender equality have been shut down. The regime is attempting to erase decades of struggle and progress."
The appointments were made without any regard to these objections being offered. It is not as if they will be alone in the commission, other than the two Asian states, there were others added and several already on the commission who are almost as guilty of gender inequality as Iran. Notice this lineup of paragons of equality. Libya, Cuba, Belarus, China, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zimbabwe. And they expect strides to be made towards gender equality from this commission. Our tax monies help support this unequivocal disaster.
This is only one of the shredding machines our tax dollars are poured into through the U.N. whose goal is simple...World Governance.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)I'm horrified. Thanks for exposing this, Joel. I'm learning a whole lot about the UN through you. Thanks for reading and the comment Jennifer. Yes it is beyond me why we continue to tolerate and sink money into this worthless organization. If nations wish to form alliances with each other, as we've always done, fine, but to continue to spend untold millions into this is outrageous. By the way, I'm not alone in this thinking. There are many who feel the same way. The ones who don't just haven't looked into the mess.
The UN just approved sanctions against Iran, or would some prefer a unilateral action where we bomb the hell out of them? Cavemen. As with all their sanctions, they won't amount to a hill of beans. I would personally choose the latter and be a caveman.
