It will be five years in May since Natalee Holloway disappeared from Aruba. She was 18 years old. The story of her disappearance and the long and extensive search for her which was very intense for a year or so, finally diminished, but then would rise and wane again. Newspaper and internet archives are filled with the stories which were prevalent.

Natalee was born October 21 1986 in Clinton Mississippi to David E. Holloway and Elizabeth (Beth) Holloway. Her parents were divorced in 1993 and she and her brother were raised by their mother. In 2000, Beth Holloway married George Twitty, an affluent businessman and moved to Mountain Brook, Alabama a segment of the Birmingham metroplex. Natalie was graduated from Mountain Brook High School with honors May 24, 2005, just six days before her disappearance.

After a number of efforts and arrests, to no avail, the case was placed on the back burner where it remained for the past year or so, with only an occasional clue or tip arising. Now, a Pennsylvania couple, John and Patti Muldowney have a photo taken by Patti while they were scuba diving on vacation in Aruba which appears to be possible remains of a human.

After an interview with LancasterOnline.com the couple stated that they had taken their vacation last fall and Patti was taking photos of tropical fish. She did not notice those things which now resemble human remains until they were going through the photos and noticed them.

They first showed the photo to friends and to the local police, all of whom said it did appear to be skeletal remains of a human. They also showed it to their doctor who said it appeared to be weighted down with rocks. They then sent enlarged copies of it to the FBI field office in Philadelphia The couple say they can get nothing out of the FBI as to what might be getting done on the case.

But the FBI in Philadelphia has said they sent the photos and (Photo at left  courtesy Wikipedia) information to their lead agent in Miami who handles that area of the Caribbean. But contact with that office has produced nothing. They claim they have no record of receiving the photos.

Although Mr. Muldowney says he has a "gut" feeling that this is the missing girl, Natalee Holloway, the odds seem to be slim. Records show that there have been a number of buried skeletons and in the sea surrounding the island discovered, but invariably they prove to be those of shipwrecked sailors from several centuries ago.

The Holloway family have offered a long standing reward of $250,000 for information leading to the resolution of this matter, and a $1 million for her safe return.

Glad you are keeping on top of this Joel. Unsolved murders, especially those of children, because I have one, are of great interest to me. I hope this gets solved, and the murderers punished. I can't imagine the sadness the parents and loved ones of this girl have had to endure, or the horror of this poor girl's final minutes.

However, after looking at the photo and knowing that the photographers only "feel" it is Natalie's body, I think a great dose of caution is in order in terms of spreading false or misleading hopes. It looks like a skeleton, but it could be anybody.

My feelings exactly Gregory. In fact, even if they find this one again (which I doubt even the woman could find it again, it is just a long shot that it would hbe her. Thanks for the comment Gregory

I do hope that someday this case is solved because of the parents. It must be terribly painful to have no closure on a missing child case.

You know it has to be devastating. It's horrible enough to think of losing one under normal conditions but not knowing would be just about more than a parent could stand, I believe. Thanks for the comment, Linda
