The “Crotch” Bomber May Have Burned More Than His Genitals

Every newsworthy occurrence somehow seems to fire off (pardon if that is a pun) more difficulties for someone in the administration. The question is sweeping the news and internet, as how could this have happened. Last Sunday, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23 year old Nigerian thought to have ties with al-Qaeda managed to fly into the Detroit airport area with an incendiary device fastened to his leg in the crotch area. He boarded the Northwest Airlines flight in Amsterdam and the device was not detected. His name was on a one advisory list because his father had warned U.S. Embassy officials about his son's possible activities in November. Yet it did not make it to the restrictive lists that would have been detected by the screeners at the airport in Amsterdam. It also did not result in his passport revocation.
But that isn't all that has arisen, my old friend who altered the language of the first controversial bail out bill... after it had been passed by the Senate, Chris Dodd, made it back into the news. It is unlikely that what he did would have had any effect upon the story of Umar, who almost neutered himself aboard the Northwest flight, but it never the less, somewhat blackens his other eye. This time it was found that he proposed an amendment back in July to reduce aviation security appropriations by $4.5 million dollars and add it to the firefighters grants. This fund has been previously criticized and one foundation's analysis reportedly stated that their annual grant of $800 million showed "no statistically measurable results". But it is one of Senator Dodd's pet constituencies and during his ill-fated effort to run for president, he toured Iowa with the firefighters union there in hopes of boosting his standing in August 2007 for the early 2008 Iowa Caucus. (See the story of this in USA Today archives)

Whether or not these funds would have changed the story we have shown above, is anyone's guess, but on the other hand, do you know what those funds were allocated for? "for screening operations and the amount for explosives detection systems." Dodd, who cannot help but share the failure of Fannie May and Freddie Mac, is known, and admitted, to having changed the language in the bailout package, which had forbidden the enormous bonuses that were later paid because of the new language, and now this taking from legitimate funds for a worthy cause and placing them with a firefighters union which had helped him in his failed presidential effort, is unforgivable and he should be booted from the Senate. Of course, he is not alone in this. His fellow senator from Connecticut, Joe Lieberman, and Senator Carper from Delaware, were co-sponsors of the bill and it passed.
Keep these gentlemen in mind when the next elections come around. All we need are legislators who place their special interests and supporters above the security of this nation.

If we booted out every elected official who pulled this kind of stunt, we'd...we'd...why, we'd have to elect a brand-new government at nearly every level! Would that be such a bad thing? :) Thanks for the info, Joel!Hi David, I believe it would be a step in the right direction. You might be intrested in a web page of the "www(dot)judicialwatch(dot)org(slash)node(slash)9615(slash)talk"It is their selection of the ten most wanted corrupt politicians for 2009. Did you know that one of the rewards promised at the first drop of blood spilt from the enemy is; 72 black eyed virgins in heaven? This is not one of my odd English jokes. I cannot comment on why he got through security, but you can now see why he put it there.
