Time To Dump The United Nations

The United Nations was organized following World War 2, in 1945. It replaced the impotent and costly League of Nations which was formed in 1920 following World War 1. Both had noble purposes, basically that of creating a peaceful world or at least enough nations to enforce it on any renegade nations. However, as the world was plunged into World War 2, the League of nations proved it's worthlessness.

Here is an opening description of the United Nations as presented by the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia:  "The United Nations is an international organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and the achieving of world peace."

As stated, it would be a great organization except for one thing. It is operated by man. And it is an  operation by 192 member nations, of such diversity of cultures as is found throughout this planet. Of this 192 nations, there are 15 who make up the Security Council which has the awesome responsibility of maintaining peace(?) throughout the world through negotiations, sanctions or armed intervention. Of those 15 nations five, China,  France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, have veto power over any measure that might be proposed by the other four permanent members or the ten non-permanent members.

First of all, this arrangement leaves smaller nations somewhat at the mercy of those who make policy. But, the primary problems come from the fact that these five nations with veto power, and with their diverse cultures, friendship nations and philosophies, quite often disagree on matters of extreme importance. Plus the fact, although they do have a measure of influence, they have virtually no power to enforce any declaration.

Looking back at the record of the League of Nations, someone throughout the world was at war from it's inception. The Franco-Syrian war, Irish war of Independence, Greco-Turkish war, the Second Moroccan War, all within a year or so of the organization of the League of Nations and the record continues. In fact, from the ending of World War 1, for the next five years history records 19 localized wars, many being fought at the same time. And, although the major powers were not fighting among themselves, several were entangled in the ongoing wars, British Empire, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia and within another year or two, China became involved in a territorial war, Soviet Union vs. Georgia, and on and on until Hitler began his crusading  which engulfed the world in World War two. There was virtually no peace that could be credited to the League of Nations.

Now let's look at the exact same lack of success under the United Nations. After World War Two was finally over, all peoples were eager and hopeful for lasting peace and welcomed the introduction of the United Nations, hoping everyone had learned by the mistakes of the League of Nations and also the destruction and deaths caused by the big war.

From the formation of the United Nations in 1945, look at this: 1945 - 1949 Chinese Civil War,
1946 - 1954 First Indochina War, 1947 - 1949 First Kashmir War between India and Pakistan,  1948 - 1949 First Arab-Israeli War and then in 1950, North and South Korea went at it hard and heavy. You have to understand where this rift sprang from and the reason the U.S. became involved to fully see what the lack of value of the United Nations was.

The Korean peninsula was politically divided during WW2 when the Japanese had overrun it and the Soviet Union armies pushed the Japanese northward to the 38th parallel and in the aftermath of the war, much dividing of oversight was made such as the division of Germany through Berlin which resulted in the infamous Berlin Wall.
Bear in mind that these political maneuvers were being handled under the newly organized United Nations. Korea was divided, Germany was divided, The Israelites were granted by the United Nations, the area now known as Israel which was under British control. The Korean division, however, was not acceptable, especially to the Communist held northern part. And there had been a number of border skirmishes prior to the invasion by the north into the south in 1950.

Regardless of what the United Nations said or done in this matter, no heed was paid to it other than a number of nations paid token attention and supplied very limited help. Squared off was North Korea, China and the Soviet Union versus South Korea and the United States. Now, without any intention to demean or belittle those others who chose the side with South Korea (via the U.N.), as usual it fell the lot of the United States to bear the brunt of the war. But the U.N. had no meaning to the three communist nations.

The United States at this time, had ample power to annihilate any army in the world, even though it would have meant nuclear weapons. But instead, they chose to allow 54,246 of our military men and women to die along with 33,600 American civilians, 16,000 United Nation allies, 415,000 South Koreans, 520,000 North Koreans and an estimated 900,000 Chinese. Then at the close of an ugly disastrous war, nothing had been gained. The division of Korea was again the 38th parallel. The only difference was a supposed two and one-half mile demilitarized zone between the north and south with hatred more deeply embedded than before.

In 1965, under Lyndon Johnson, the United States invaded and occupied the Dominican Republic under the pretext of stabilizing the country and protecting U.S. Citizens, even though the primary reason was to insure that another communist regime, such as happened in Cuba, did not take over the nation.

From 1953 when the Korean war was negotiated to a close, there were 81 conflicts throughout the world until 1989. Included in this was the long and dreadful Vietnam war. This war actually had it's beginning about the same time the Korean war did, although it's beginning was a cold war involving Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The U.S. actually sent military advisors there as early as 1950, however we did not get involved more than that until the early 1960's  until we began deploying combat troops in 1965. Our objective here as in many cases, was to avert a communist takeover of Vietnam. But, in 1973 congress passed an amendment forbidding any further military intervention after August 15, 1973. Eight years of bloody warfare only to pull out and allow the north to take Saigon in early 1975.

South Vietnam suffered 184,000 military deaths with an estimate 400,000 wounded. Civilian deaths were estimated between 500,000 and 2,000,000 with the majority of those from South Vietnam. The U.S. military casualties were 58,209 dead, 303,635 wounded and 1,948 missing. Another horrible price to pay for a non-victory resolution. Actually it was not a draw, it was lost. The very thing we entered the war to prevent, happened after we withdrew.

From our count of wars to1989 on until this present time, there are listed another 123 wars or clashes, including our own invasion of Panama and Granada, Persian Gulf war, Invasion of Iraq and then Afghanistan. There are several others we had a part in such as Bosnia, etc. But we've said all of this to show that the United Nations, as was the League of Nations, is impotent when it comes to avoiding or settling wars and disputes. Virtually no nations pay any attention to their resolutions, yet they expect us to do so. They have taken the side of terrorism, they have taken the side of the Palestinians in their effort to destroy Israel.

In addition to these things, they expect the United States to foot the major portion of their bills. They have hindered us in our efforts to stop terrorism and have demeaned us as well as Israel for any retaliation against our enemies. They have tried to get our troops for peacekeeping duty and to serve under foreign leaders. This should never happen. They have, and continue, trying to get a universal tax for the global warming farce. There are movements in the organization working towards a global governance, global taxation and do you know who will carry the burden if these are ever enacted? The United States have always wound up carrying the load while the others criticize our methods of carrying it. They even have plans for ecumenism in religion. This is utterly ridiculous. I would be all for that if everyone would accept my beliefs. I am sure others would accept that also. But with over thirty thousand different "Christian" views besides the other entirely different religions, the idea becomes ludicrous.

The United Nations has deployed peacekeeping forces to various spots but for the most part, the killing continues and even the peacekeeping forces have been known to loot, rape and kill. In general, a waste of time, money and lives.

When one belongs to an organization, the majority of which despises you and each has an equal vote, you have problems. I believe the United Nations should be dissolved before more harm is done to freedom loving countries. We have not considered here, the tremendous amount of money required to maintain this terrible mistake, nor have we mentioned the corruption which goes on within it's walls.
