My Reason For Voting A Straight Republican Ticket

I appreciate Searchwarp making this forum available for political viewpoints to be aired. I would like to state briefly that my parents were staunch Democrats and I was raised under their influence to have that persuasion also. I am not the least embarrassed or have any regrets for having been a Democrat then nor to say that my parents were. They had just come through the worst depression the U.S. had, or has yet, experienced. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected simply because a Republican held the White House during the crash of 1929. But he was an excellent president and, even though it took years to completely recover from that, things began to improve shortly after he took office. He was revered by a majority of the people, and was elected for a third term. Had he lived and had congress not passed a bill limiting the presidential office to two terms, he might still be president. I had not voted for any president until I returned from my military tour of duty and had just passed my 23 rd birthday. Ex-General Dwight Eisenhower, a Republican, running against Robert Taft, a Democrat.

I had no qualms concerning either of these men insofar as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, or things of that nature were concerned. The fact that the Democratic Truman administration had been widely chastised by the press for having communistic leanings much corruption in it also, plus the fact that I was impressed by Eisenhower's stand towards the war in Korea, I held my breath and voted Republican. There is little doubt that Eisenhower was among the best ever of our presidents. Yet I still held some favorable feelings towards the Democratic party. For the next few elections, I studied each party's platform and the individual candidate's ideas and promises.

In those earlier years, there were no candidates or parties whose platforms were so drastic but that one could vote for either, in good conscience without fear of losing freedoms or desecrating the constitution and/or the flag. Anyone who desired could stand on any street corner and preach hell-fire and brimstone at the passersby. It seemed a nuisance to some of us, but they had the right and people just allowed them to carry on until they became too hoarse. I remained registered as a Democrat until a few years before Roe vs. Wade. My decision came to register as a Republican due to my ideas that most of the Democrats were heavy spenders of tax monies and we were undergoing a constant inflation of several points each year. Also, it seemed to me that more and more Democrats were leaning towards abortion and also promoting restriction on Christian activities.

Democrats had gotten us into WW 2, Korea, and Vietnam but I had never realized just what was happening. I was too young to realize whether or not WW 2 was justified. I now believe that it truly was. I also thought that Korea was probably justified, but I do not yet know that for sure. I was drafted into the Korean mess, I went and did the best I could. But I never thought the Vietnam war was justifiable and still don't. I detest those who willfully abused our servicemen in those times though. Our servicemen (and women) should be honored and thanked for doing their bit whenever called upon by our government.

After Roe versus Wade, I then began to choose all of my candidates based upon their degree of liberalism and have done so ever since. Race, color or gender plays no part in my choice. One's religion means nothing to me so long as it poses no threat to my own. I believe my version of Christianity is correct, otherwise, I would be seeking that which I could believe to be correct. I differ in my own belief to probably 99.99% of the world's population. But I would stand behind anyone's right to believe as they do. Every man is granted free moral agency by the Holy Bible and certainly it should be so by governmental law.

With all this said, it must be obvious that I presently support the Republican ticket because they are not even nearly as liberal as the Democratic ticket. Barack Obama was chosen as the most liberal in his voting of any senator by the National Journal. Liberals believe in more and more governmental controls, more and more taxation, more and more pork spending. There is no way that their programs will not bring on, once again, double digit inflation, higher and higher costs to the little man. Perhaps they will not raise the taxes on those of us who have such low incomes. But I assure you we will feel the bite put on the wealthy and large corporations. If anyone is fooled into believing that higher taxes on the large corporations will result in lower profits for them, they are fantasizing. Those taxations will be handed on down to us in the form of higher prices, lower wages and fewer employees.

Our problems have come from corrupt politicians who get kickbacks for pork spending. We are in this mess at present because everybody was trying to get their hand into the pie. We have left over governmentally controlled businesses from the days of Franklin D. Roosevelt. He started some of these to insure a rise out of the deep depression. But once it was over (thanks to World War 2 spending) these institutions should have been dissolved or privatized completely. (Fannie Mae, et al)

Another primary objection I have this year with the Democrats is their vicious objections to our freedom of speech, press and religion. There are underfoot movements to try and silence talk radio. There are those who wish to completely stifle Christianity and there are those who would gladly regulate content of all forms of the press. And I know, without hesitation, that should we have all three branches of our government filled with these liberals, Christianity will be forced underground. And this is exactly what we are headed for this election.

Abortion will not only be upon demand but will be encouraged under a liberal Democratic controlled government. Many have insinuated that we would not be having our problems if more abortions were performed! More than almost 200 every hour, 24/7?

Under an Obama administration, we will see a tremendous influx of those promoting Islam and also Shariah law. I don't have a fight with anyone who wishes to belong to the Islamic religion. But I do not wish to have any religion whose agenda is to force their beliefs upon others whenever they can, nor do I wish to have Shariah law under any circumstances. Obama says that he was converted to Christianity. I take his word for that. But there are many evidences that he supports those whose ideologies are just what I have said above. Raila Odinga, Prime Minister of Kenya, whose followers killed over 1500 innocent people earlier this year, states that he is an uncle, or cousin (depending upon which article you read) to Obama and was contacted many times during the violence there, by Obama. He made an agreement with the Kenyan Muslims that he would grant them rights to install Shariah law in their areas if they backed him for President. He lost the election, thus the violence and slaughter. A photocopy of this agreement can be viewed here: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view & pageId=78323

With the probability of a minimum of one Supreme Court judge being chosen by the next president and with a possibility of as many as 4 more (4 are in their 70's). I cannot but vote Republican for all national offices. Far too much is riding on this. I would love to see a black man in the White House, or a black woman. But not this ultra liberal man, who is as much white as black. I sincerely fear that there is going to be violence after this election, regardless of who wins. I pray that I am wrong.

Thank you for sharing your views, and I do truly respect your opinions.

I would have to call myself a liberal. I may hold views that you object to, and one of those is certainly abortion and pro-choice. I do not, however, like abortion. I do not want abortion to be encouraged. I wish there were no abortion. If there were no right to life people out there advocating the overturn of Roe I would be an adoption advocate.

My own son is adopted. His biological mother was a professional, 23 years old, and discovered in her pregnancy that her significant other was sleeping around. She easily could have picked to have an abortion. I am so thankful that she opted for adoption over abortion. That is the choice I wish every woman would make, but I just can't go so far that direction that I would take the choice away from women.

I have seen too many really difficult situations and I would not presume to tell these women what to do.

All liberals may not always be THAT far away from you in motive, and we may actually share values without sharing the solutions we would prefer.

I wish you the very best and thank you for sharing.

Thanks Tex, for your honest and reasonable comment. Many disagree with me on lots of things and I'd give my very life defending their right to do that. I totally object to abortion simply because there is life in that fetus and, just because it has never seen the light of day is no reason to be free to take it's life. It cannot be called anything except murder, plain and simple.

There are plenty of people, like yourself, who are wishing for an adoption and awaiting their chance. The only thing a woman needs to do is give birth to the child and put it up for adoption. If she cannot afford the cost, there are medicaid programs which will take care of every penny.

Again, I appreciate your comment.

Frankly, Joel, an Obama administration frightens me -- especially Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. My sentiments pretty much match yours, except in age and experience (smile) and I suppose the only thing we can all do now is to pray and pray I will - God bless you for your courage and honesty and I am truly proud to be a fan of yours!

Thank you Judi, I feel as you do. I doubt that we can survive four, or especially eight years of their big government ideology and the loosening of our immigration and illegal immigration laws. We aren't living in our father's nation or even mine some 4 or 5 decades ago.

"And I know, without hesitation, that should we have all three branches of our government filled with these liberals, Christianity will be forced underground." Wow! You really believe that? Do you realize that millions of church-going Christians, including Catholics are Democrats or vote Democrat? Do you think it is in their interest to vote for those who will ban their own religion? It is shocking how many of the voters in this election will be driven mostly by fear, thanks to consistent Republican fear mongering. In my opinion, fear is the lowest motivation of all, yet so many are shackled by fear politics. One Bible scholar has found in the Scriptures 365 times where the Almighty tells believers, "Fear not", "Be not afraid". The conservative Republicans have made a caricature of Obama to help rally their base and drive them into the voting booth. Observing such a portrait one would think that Anti-Christ is on the Democratic ticket this year, if not Satan himself. Keep scaring people, and we'll have a nation of paranoids in the Divided States of America. I guess the hopeful sign is that most Americans are not falling for this high level of fear baiting. But I do appreciate you laying out your views, however fear-laden they might be. ~mogama~

I fo believe it with all my heart, mogama. And it is not from Republican fearmongering. Christians, truely trying to live according to Biblical doctrine, are obligated to speak out against anything that is contrary to those teachings. We now have those who are advocating an anti-hate law, which we already have laws protecting the same acts. But those people want to stifle any speech against false doctrines or anything they do not like to hear. It will definitely pass in the scenario I described and with a heavy number of activist judges, it is a sure bet. It will come to the point that nothing can be said against murdering babies.

Joel aside from Abortion, your response to a reader  "I doubt that we can survive four, or especially eight years of their big government ideology and the loosening of our immigration and illegal immigration laws" makes me think you really believe that the Republicans are not at the core of the same issues. It is by their works and deeds as well. I give you one Republican to ponder out of many Lindsey Graham South Carolina.  In my opinion and by your own explanation you evidently don't like them as well? So why vote for them? Best Wishes.

Hi Robert, the reason is simple, they are not as bad as the Democrats. I grant you have the option of voting for Alan Keyes and I wish to high heaven he had a chance, but i think you know that he does not. And every vote missed will be that much more tor the ultra liberals. Thanks for commenting.

Your right about that but I wasn't voting for either of them to start with so not a deciding factor.

You included that bit about Odinga in Kenya, but it just doesn't hold up to scrutiny when you wrote. You apparently didn't know this was discredited. But I'm curious, did you, a thinking and reasoning human being even try and disprove it to yourself before believing this lie? Or did you believe it because it agreed with your foreordained conclusions, biases and prejudices (for as you believe, so shall it be)? It's one more lie promoted by a discredited smut peddlar, and part of the entire campaign effort by McCain Palin to smear and tarnish Obama and make people afraid of him as a diversion from their support for the undermining of our country by the Bush administration for the last 8 years. But it raises a bigger issue here. Where is the value of critical thinking in your ideology? It's the main thing that separates us from the countries ruled by the mullahs and ayotollahs, who impose their religious ideology on everyone and punish those who dare think for themselves. God gave us this ability to think, yet for some reason, people refuse to do it.

Hi Curious, thanks for commenting. I don't agree with you. You can find substantion for my stand if you will only look instead of putting all your effort in to trying to disprove it. I have some close presonal friends in Kenya and believe them in addition to the articles I have read.

Thanks, Joel. I agree with you. My parents, who are retired missionaries, returned from Kenya just three months ago and they were able to see with their own eyes what VP Odinga’s supporters had done. It was nothing short of an ethnic cleansing. The Luos (the tribe of Barck Obama Sr.) drove most Kikuyus from their area, destroying their property.

» left by Joel Hendon 3 years 202 days ago.
Yes, I am aware of that. I am acquainted with two native gospel preachers there who are Kikuyus, but fortunately, they lived in a sparsely populated area and were not harmed. We have been helping them financially for the past several years. They told me though, that a Christian church building near them was burned to the ground and some were killed in it. Odinga is a criminal, I cannot help it if he is related to Obama or not. Thank you for writing.

Interesting views, Joel. Both candidates had their good points and bad points. Being a democrat, however, I voted democrat again. Thanks for sharing your views with us, Joel.

God Bless.

Sandra, I'll never say that anyone is not entitled to their opinion. But this time I surely hope you don't regret it. The Democratic heiarchy is determined this time to cut into our constitutional rights and I hope Obama won't buy into it, but I think he will. I would never have voted for McCain except for the fact of the excessive power being taken over by the Democrats. Neither party should ever have a monoply. Thanks for your comment.
