The Natalee Holloway Case…Is Closure Finally Near?

In the past few days, news from Aruba says there is new evidence in the Natalee Holloway disappearance and supposed murder. The same 3 boys have been re-arrested who have been under suspicion almost since day one. There has to be something going on here that does not meet the eye. Joran van der Sloot who is attending college in the Dutch city of Arnhem was arrested Wednesday by the Dutch authorities while the two Surinamese brothers, Satish and Deepak Kalpoe, were re-arrested in Aruba. Aruba is an island territory of the Netherlands government.
The Holloway family has continued to press for more investigation since the beginning and has contended that the government is negligent and unconcerned about resolving the case. They, along with Alabama Governor Bob Riley and a number of other influential people have asked the American people to boycott tourism into Aruba and have gained a considerable following in this project. This has brought on some very interesting facts. Mr. Holloway has now been given the authority to come investigate the deeper ocean waters surrounding the island and has made arrangement's to do so.
Below is a paragraph from World Net Daily for June 15, 2006:
. In a USAToday article dated Oct. 30, 2005, Myrna Jansen, the managing director of the Aruba Tourism Authority was quoted as saying, "Now everybody knows Aruba," boasting that Aruba is more popular than ever, and even claiming a 10 percent increase in tourism, much of it from repeat tourists. Just about a week later, in a Nov. 8, 2005, article posted at Aruba.com, Jansen claimed Aruba's reputation "remains intact" and claimed increased U.S. visitors and higher hotel occupancy forecasts over the next year.
There are a number of other articles with similar claims by the Aruba officials attempting to convince people that their tourism was up in spite of the boycott effort. But read below a couple of paragraphs from and article published November 14, 2006 in the Boycott Watch (Boycottwatch.org)
In an article by Boycott Watch President Fred Taub that was originally published by World Net Daily on June 15, 2006, Boycott Watch broke the story that Aruba had lied about its tourism numbers in the face of a boycott related to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Aruba then backtracked in its reports to cover up the fact that tourism was down, not up as they originally reported. Aruba's backtrack, however, was not enough. (emphasis mine JH)
In a press release by the Central bank of Aruba on November 9, 2006 , Aruba reported "In July 2006, the number of stay-over visitors and their nights spent on the island fell by 9.1 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding month in 2005. In the first seven months of 2006, stay-over visitors and total nights spent on the island went down by 10.2 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively. However, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the average occupancy rate of the hotels for September 2006 shows a contraction of 2.5 percentage points to 66.6 percent, compared to the corresponding month a year earlier. Figures on tourist arrivals and nights spent on the island for August and September 2006 are not yet available."
Now many have wondered why Aruba would have lied about their tourism, but I think that is probably obvious. They knew that some people were now afraid to go there and their idea was to convince the American public that others were continuing to come and therefore, they would feel safe to go also. But keep in mind that this island depends largely on tourism income to sustain them, and the vast majority of those are from the U.S.A. So when your governmental financial receipts are cut by about 10%, that hurts. So, what really stinks in this author's nostrils is why now, since they see that their resources have dried up some and it wasalso found that they have lied to hide that fact, have they suddenly discovered new incriminating evidence against these three men?
I'm no public or private detective, but I venture that within the next few weeks you will see a conclusion brought to this case. The van der Sloot family is wealthy and has very strong influence on this island of slightly over 70,000 people. And so, although he has been highly suspect from the beginning, I doubt that the axe will fall in his direction. I am personally convinced that the two Kalpoe brothers, whether or not they had a hand in the disappearance of the girl, are privy to the facts. And for that reason, I also question that they will get the axe. So, what next.? I may be wrong in every instance. I am not accusing anyone, I am only voicing my opinion. There very well may appear some other unknown suspect that will suffice. The world has already witnessed the integrity of the government there, so why not crucify some poor guy who happened to be in the wrong place at the right time? Let's hope that, for the sake of regaining some of the lost confidence in them, they will do the right thing and convict the guilty party, regardless of social status.

The path that the Holloway's have taken to keep their daughter's case alive is definitely working, whether or not there will be justice. The Holloway's endless battle for justice will hopefully be found. I know I will be praying for this family's peace. I enjoyed Mr. Hendon's article and felt it was very well written.Thanks for the comment Lisa, the latest article update that I've seen is also from Fox News and here is a short paragraph: "Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, citing anonymous detectives in Aruba, reported Friday that the new evidence is derived from phone taps of conversations between Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes from earlier this year in which they contradict their earlier statements to police."
Excellent article. This Family needs closure. Losing their Daughter is bad enough without them knowing what happened to her. It has been clear from the beginning that these 3 boys know exactly what happened to Natalie, and her parents deserve to know as well. Americans should stop vacationing in Aruba until her body is "suddenly" found and the guilty party/parties prosecuted and punished.
I agree with Anonymous,go someplace else till this is over,or we are allowing a vacation spot the right to do to our children whatever they please,it's worse than getting locked up in Tieland
I suspected that tourism was down in this part of the world. I am not avoiding this area because of fear. I am not vacationing here because this facade of an investigation is not holding the guilty parties responsible. It is against my prinicples to devalue human life as these thugs have done. Sadly, a young girl's life was snuffed out all too soon. Is this OJ revisited?
